Summer Flower Crown (Solstice KAL 2022)

This kit was originally for Ambah O'Brien's 2022 Solstice Knit-Along. The kit is available both in fingering (summer solstice pattern) and DK (winter solstice pattern) weight for that pattern.

Description

This kit is inspired by the flowers in the Swedish landscape, and is meant to represent the summer meadow that you could see around the summer solstice. There is a very particular tradition connected to the Swedish midsummer celebrations (which coincide with the summer solstice in June) that inspired this kit. Namely, the flower crown.

During the Swedish midsummer celebrations, old traditions had it that the young women would go into the fields and pick flowers and grass to weave a flower crown. This is worn during the festivities associated with the midsummer celebrations. They were also to pick seven different types of flowers, and place them under their pillow at night. If they did so, they would dream of the their future husband!

Completely unrelated fun fact: did you know that the most common birth month in Sweden is March?

For this kit, I have picked ten different flowers and created mini skeins to represent them. I have completed the kit with dark and light green mini skeins for grass, so that you can create your own "flower crown"!

About the yarn

Base: This kit is offered on Merino DK and Merino Twist bases.
Weight per mini skein: 20 g / 45 m / 49 yds (DK) and 20 g / 80 m / 87 yd
Units: 21 mini skeins per kit (one each of the flowers, and combination of light and  dark grass to make 21 total)
