Blog Post 8 - Stockholm

How's it going for everyone? I've been keeping moving here and making my way back north. After the delightful stop in Mjölby I figured it was time to move on. I visited Norrköping, which has a rich history in the textiles industry. A lot of old industrial buildings have been repurposed to be part of the university or as housing, and the river runs right through the middle of town in a really fun way. I also took a break in Södertälje, where there was a lot of fun history to see.

Today, though, I made my way up to the big city: Stockholm! There is so much to see and do here! I had to pick just one thing, and so off I went to the Vasa Museum to see the Royal Warship Vasa.

Vasa has the distinct celebrity of being a ship that sank almost immediately after it was finished...and then it was somewhat lost in the waters of the archipelago. Vasa stayed at the bottom of the harbor for over 300 years before she was recovered in 1959.

Surprisingly well-preserved, she sits now in a museum totally devoted to her story, both of the botched construction job, disastrous maiden voyage, and recovery after 300 years. You're not allowed to board her, but you can view pretty much all levels, and scientists are actively working on the preservation efforts.

This was a really fun visit, but I think I've got to keep moving! It's almost Christmas and I've really got to get to my final destination!

Cheers,
