Hi all!
I'm continuing to make my way southwards. After I left Lovikka I took a turn for the southwest and headed over to Jokkmokk, and then turned further south towards Vilhelmina. The going was good, so I kept trucking along to my next destination, Östersund.
What a lovely city! I've heard about it before, of course, but it's situated so nicely on the lake that it took my breath away! Of course I had to go exploring and see if I could find the Great Lake Monster (Storsjöodjuret). Apparently it lives in the lake after being freed from an ancient Viking runestone that cracked. There are a lot of places where you can go looking for it around the lake, and they're usually in very pretty locations.
(Artist's rendition, obviously)
Anyway, this is a very active city! They told me that in the summer there's all kinds of sporty things to do around the lake like kayaking, wakeboarding, swimming and so on. And in the winter, once the lake freezes over, they open up the ice for people to right over it from the islands on ice skates, skis, bikes, and even snowmobiles! Also the national biathlon team is headquartered here, so they've got a skiing/biathlon stadium!
Anyway, I hope you all can get out and be active during these days! (And maybe find signs of a mysterious monster!)
Cheers,
Gävlebocken
